Lagos State police command over the weekend arrested one  Sarah Eteigbe  for allegedly placing a hot pressing iron on her 12-year-old houseboy,  Friday Obi , for taking her soft drink in Bariga area of Lagos. The 35-year-old trader brought Obi from Imo State, 4 years ago, to live with her in her one-room apartment at 17 Mutairu Street, Pedro, Bariga. Shortly after Obi settled in the house, Sarah allegedly started beating him. Sarah’s landlord and Obi’s teachers were said to have cautioned her against inflicting injuries on the boy whenever she punished him. The beating came to a head last Friday after teachers noticed bloodstains on his uniform. Upon enquiry, he disclosed that his aunty burnt him with hot pressing iron. Leicester City’s owner, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, died in the helicopter crash outside the club’s stadium on Saturday, it was confirmed on Sunday night by the club. He was one of five people killed – all onboard the helicopter – when the accident occurred around an hour after the club’s draw at home to West Ham United. An aircraft with 189 people on board is believed to have sunk after crashing into the sea off Indonesia's island of Java on Monday, shortly after takeoff from the capital on its way to the country's tin-mining hub, officials said. A spokesman for Indonesia's search and rescue agency said the  Lion Air  flight, JT610, lost contact 13 minutes after takeoff, adding that a tug boat leaving the capital's port had seen the craft falling. "It has been confirmed that it has crashed," the spokesman, Yusuf Latif, said by text message, when asked about the fate of the plane, which air tracking service Flightradar 24 identified as a Boeing 737 MAX 8. A grateful mother took to social media to praise a boy who helped her daughter when she unknowingly got her period on a school bus. At least 14 children have been injured in a knife attack at a kindergarten in Chongqing, south-west China. Police say a 39-year-old woman carrying a kitchen knife entered the school in Banan district on Friday morning, as the children were in the playground. The motive for the attack is unclear, though some reports on social media say the woman had a grievance against the government. The woman, whose surname was given as Liu, was arrested at the scene.

A Malawian Catholic priest has been heavily criticized after his beach picture with one of his female staff went online. Rev. Father Charles Mukhalira Chiuta Dhlovu of Mzuzu Diocese had posed with Grace Mwiwa, during a party organised by the Church’s radio station, Tigawane FM, at Chikale beach. However, many Malawians are calling him out over what they termed “an inappropriate pose.” Also, Mwiwa, a presenter at the station, was recently promoted and many believed it was influenced by the priest.

Francisca López Pérez, from Momostenango, Totonicapán, Guatemala, was raped by a candy seller who she has not been able to identify, and she became pregnant with triplets, according to Univisión . . The 13-year-old, who did not know she was pregnant until she saw the changes in her body, gave birth last May, but both she and her children suffered from malnutrition. . The triplets weighed about 1kg each and two of them were rushed to a hospital in the area, however, 25 days later, they died. . After childbirth, Pérez and the only survivor of the triplets, live in heartbreaking poverty, complicated even more because the child needs oxygen and must be taken to the hospital constantly. . Mr Lawan Faro, from Yola, capital of Adamawa State, who climbed a 40 metre-high billboard hanger and threatened to fall off unless President Muhammadu Buhari resigns within 12 hours, has been arrested by the Police. The Federal Government has said it is working hard to come out with a policy that would limit the number of children that a mother could have in Nigeria. Minister of finance, Zainab Ahmed disclosed this on Tuesday while responding to questions during a session at the 24th Nigerian Economic Summit in Abuja. She said; “We have been engaging traditional rulers and other leaders. Specifically, we have found out that to be able to address one of the great challenges that we identified in the ERGP, which is the growth in our population, we need to engage these institutions. “And we hope that with their support, we will get to a point where we can come out with the policy that limits the number of children that a mother can have because that is important for sustaining our growth,”

Last Friday a Professor of Biochemistry at the Biological Sciences Department in the Federal University of Agriculture in Makurdi (FUAM) mr  Frank Onyezili,  committed suicide. Mr Onyezili took his own life, last week Friday, after drinking poison and leaving behind a suicide note. . It was gathered that his decision to commit suicide might not be unconnected with depression and loneliness after wife and children left him and moved out of the country.

The Principal of Government Technical College mr  Friday Udoaka,  in Abak, Akwa Ibom State, has apologized for flogging a female corps member in the school, Olaitan Adeola Kolawole. Udoaka apologized at the NYSC state office, yesterday, in Uyo. He said he did not deliberately flog Kolawole, noting that he used the cane on her out of anger. The victim was said to have written the name of her friend, Dolapo Victoria in the attendance register of the school on Friday, October 19, 2018, when Dolapo was absent. The principal who has just three years to retire from service was said to have flogged Kolawole for the “misdeamour” and dragged her outside the classroom in front of the students. “No man is perfect, I have not beaten a corps member before. Uche Dubem, a Psychology graduate of the Imo State University, who rode a bicycle from Owerri to Abuja in support of Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ambition, has been hospitalised at the National Hospital in Abuja. According to him, he went to urinate but suddenly had a shock in his head which made him lose consciousness. “When I woke up I found myself in the hospital; the National Hospital. Series of tests were conducted and at the end of the day my BP was about 300. But now I am getting okay,”  he said.

The leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has vowed never to return to the Federal High Court in Abuja where he was standing trial before he left the country. According to him, there is something fundamentally wrong with those that rule Nigeria. Kanu who resurfaced in Jerusalem last Friday after he went missing for over a year, made the vow during a live broadcast on Radio Biafra yesterday October 21st.  Recall that the Federal Government charged him with treason but Justice Binta Nyako granted him bail after 18 months in detention. Kanu flouted all the terms of the bail before the military invaded his Abia residence on September 14, 2017 after which he fled the country and resurfaced last Friday in Jerusalem.  In his live broadcast, Kanu said the Nigerian courts do not have the capacity to try him. Following the inability of the Federal Government and the labour unions in Nigeria to arrive at meeting point over new minimum wage, the Organised labour has announced that an indefinite nationwide strike will commence November 6. This was contained in a statement on Sunday by President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ayuba Wabba, and that of the United Labour Congress (ULC). The labour unions are unhappy over government’s claim that no amount was agreed with the labour leaders at a meeting of a tripartite committee as well as the FG’s stance that it could only increase the minimum wage from the current N18,000 to N24,000. According to the labour unions, N30,000 was agreed during negotiation and any amount below the figure would not be accepted.
